Milwaukee Flavor Live brings tastes of the city to the Public Market

What does Milwaukee taste like? Before you say something about wort or whey, let’s restrict answers to things intended for human consumption, because the city’s talented chefs keep coming up with great dishes — enough to fill a book, in fact.

Visit Milwaukee debuted the digital edition of that tome, which at the time was called The Milwaukee Cookbook, earlier this year. Just in time for the holidays, it’s getting a new name, a physical edition and an event that will bring those tastes to life.

The new name is Milwaukee Flavor – The Cookbook. The physical edition will be available for pre-order soon on the Visit Milwaukee website. And the event is Milwaukee Flavor Live, a four-course choose your own adventure Feb. 6 at the Milwaukee Public Market.

"We are thrilled to launch Milwaukee Flavor Live with our great partners at the Milwaukee Public Market to showcase the heart of Milwaukee's culinary scene,” Visit Milwaukee chief marketing officer Josh Albrecht said in a release. “This event is a testament to our commitment to promoting Milwaukee's vibrant food culture to the world.”

Emcee Adam Pawlak will be one of eight chefs involved with the night’s experience, which invites guests to choose one of two options for each of the four courses prepared by a local talent:

  • Amalinda’s Gregory Leon — Caramel Custard
  • The Diplomat’s Dane Baldwin — The Diplomat's Caesar Salad
  • Lupi & Iris’ Adam Siegel — Grandma's Chicken Soup
  • Ruby’s Bagels’ Daniela Ruby Varela — Albondigas
  • Sanford’s Justin Aprahamian — Braised Duck Leg Tacos
  • Strange Town’s Mia LeTendre — Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp
  • Taqwa's Bakery & Restaurant Taqwa Obaid — Makloba

In addition to the spotlight meal, Ryan Castelaz of Agency and Katie Rose of Goodkind will hook up each guest with two signature cocktails. There will also be a chance to take on the “Chef’s Secret Ingredient Challenge” and guess the mystery element in various small bites from chef Ramses Alvarez.

Tickets for Milwaukee Flavor Live are $175 per person, with proceeds going toward the cost of publishing the physical edition of Milwaukee Flavor – The Cookbook, which attendees will be able to pre-order at a 25% discount. The book was written by This Bites co-host and Milwaukee Magazine dining critic Ann Christenson, and photographed by Kevin Miyazaki. It features personal recipes by local chefs, along with the stories that explain how they became so important in their lives and careers.
