May the Fourth ... bring you to State of Sound! Get tickets now.

In a short time, Dak duBois has forged long-lasting ties to Milwaukee

Every week, the State of Sound podcast welcomes an artist from our monthly concert series into the studio to go deep on one of their songs. For more info on the live show, including how to get tickets, visit the event page.

Last month, we debuted the podcast companion to State of Sound by bringing back some of the artists who helped us launch the live-music program last year. As we enter March, we’re bringing it into 2024 with highlights from the very first reimagined State of Sound concert showcase Feb. 3 and conversations with each artist, digging into the details of one of their most beloved songs

First up is Dak duBois, whose music focuses on the collaborative spirit of Milwaukee’s tightly knit music scene. The Oshkosh native and “jam” aficionado fell in love with Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood, prompting him to relocate there. He quickly formed strong ties with established artists like Wave Chapelle, Klassik and beyond.

Those connections come up in our conversation about Dak’s song “Townie,” featuring fellow Milwaukee artists *aya and Emmitt James. To hear that and his State of Sound performance, use the player at the top of the page or your podcatcher of choice. And don’t forget to get tickets to our next live show on the State of Sound event page.
