Partner Spotlight: Stubby's Gastrogrub and Beer Bar

Hi, who are you representing and what is your title?

Brad Todd, owner of Stubby's Gastrogrub & Beer Bar.

What's one song you can't stop listening to?

In all honesty...at this very point in my life, I've discovered that my 3 month old son William has taken a liking to Willie Nelson and is particularly fond of his cover of Kermit the Frog's "Rainbow Connection."  We've been listening to it every single morning together (at the very least).

What are you most passionate about in regards to what is happening in our community and what is Stubby’s doing for the community?

In recent years, there has been a very apparent growth in the sense of pride for what it means to be a Milwaukeean.  People are truly proud to call this city and what is has to offer their own. Stubby's success is directly a result of the support of our local community and neighbors.  We are honored to be welcomed as a member of such a proud community and our staff strives to get to know each and every one of our guests. This level of service is what made the industry that built our city and we hope to keep that alive.

How did Stubby’s get started and what are some recent highlights and what’s in store for 2019?

Stubby's began in 2010 when the craft beer boom was just beginning.  The idea for a "craft beer bar" was the catalyst for what ended up becoming much more than that.  The space that Stubby's is in was certainly more than the original vision, but after seeing it the concept really started to develop.  There is a huge kitchen, so the "craft beer bar" quickly became a full blown restaurant, but the main thing that we wanted to achieve was creating an environment that was comfortable for all.  The Humboldt bridge is at the pivot point of all different neighborhoods with their own demographics and subcultures.  We're nine years in and I can definitely say that I'm proud of achieving that because we see all walks of life come through our doors every single day. Over the years, Stubby's has evolved and sort of grown into its own being, but the one thing that has remained the same is our passion for getting to know all these different people. In 2019 we'll be continuing to do aesthetic updates to both the inside and the patio including some riverside TVs and boat docks.

Why do you choose to support 88Nine?

I guess the long and the short of it is that I genuinely feel that everyone I have gotten to know from 88Nine makes a point to consciously support things in our community that are making it a better place, which in turn, makes it a better place. That's how it works.
