Every week, the State of Sound podcast welcomes an artist from our monthly concert series into the studio to go deep on one of their songs. For more info on the live show, including how to get tickets, visit the event page.

On Feb. 3, 88Nine officially relaunched our State of Sound project as a monthly concert series. This dialed-up experience brought Sleepy Gaucho, dak duBois, Scam Likely and Wave Chapelle into a packed performance space we’re looking to duplicate at our next showcase March 2.

Five days later, we doubled up on the debuts with our podcast companion to State of Sound, featuring highlights from the live show and an artist interview that digs deep into one of their songs. Episodes focused on the four artists from the February concert are coming soon, but in the meantime, we decided to get started by inviting back a few of the talents who helped bring State of Sound to life last year.

Born and brewed in Wisconsin, Milwaukee’s Social Cig makes self-proclaimed indie skate rock that’s full of as much pluck as it is introspection. The brainchild of Parker Schultz, Social Cig’s newest EP featuring that sonic juxtaposition is called In The Pocket.

In this episode, we break down a single from that collection, “Cats & Dogs,” and flash back to Social Cig’s live performance at our Walker’s Point studios last summer. You can listen using the player at the top of the page or by finding us on your preferred podcast platform, and be sure to get tickets to our next live show on the State of Sound event page.
