Every week, La Alternativa sponsored by Sparkly Clean Co. delivers the very best from the Latin alternative scene by curating a blend of emerging and established artists within the Latin diaspora, while providing a platform to champion our growing local music scene. Listen on demand here and on 88Nine from 10-11 p.m. every Wednesday.
In this week’s show, we sat down with Milwaukee rapper, artist and cultural organizer El Sebas. Known for connecting Latin rhythms like cumbia with hip-hop, his lyrics are poignant and personal to his struggles, amplifying resiliency and hope in his messaging.
We sat down to talk about his latest single, “Sana Sana,” a blend of cumbia sonidero, cumbiaton and hip-hop with lyrics that explore the lessons he’s learned throughout his life. He also shared some music that accompanied him through different moments, the role his fiance Amanda has played in creative exploration and a few things he has in the works (including the “Sana Sana” music video that’s set to drop Oct. 3).
