Every week, the State of Sound podcast welcomes an artist from our monthly concert series into the studio to go deep on one of their songs. For more info on the live show, including how to get tickets, visit the event page.

Hanna Simone is a Milwaukee singer-songwriter who counts Brandi Carlile, Jewel and Adele as her main influences. She started performing in Nashville as a solo artist at age 16 and then, after relocating to Milwaukee, put together a talented and close-knit band that compliments her passionate style tinged by blues, folk and rock.

With lyrics that are as intimate as they are vulnerable, Simone aims to persuade her listeners to open themselves to a real musical connection. I got to chat with her about that approach and her song “Spaceship,” which chronicles the acute feelings of being an alien at times, even to your own environment.

To hear the conversation and part of Hanna Simone’s set from our State of Sound showcase back in April, use the player at the top of the page or your podcast platform of choice. You can also visit our State of Sound event page, where we just announced the lineup for our next show: Melee The Queen, Cyrus Chrome, Lady Sabo, Vacancy Chain and DJ Sammy T. Tickets are $20 at the door, but you can save some time and money by picking them up right now.
