The search for Milwaukee's first hip-hop song: Who was Marvell Love?
With hip-hop celebrating its 50-year anniversary, we thought this was the perfect time to re-air all six episodes of Backspin — our search for the city's first hip-hop song, led by 88Nine’s former music director Justin Barney and Tyrone Miller, aka DJ Bizzon.
In the podcast's second episode, our hosts take us back to the early 1980s, when Milwaukee's fertile music culture laid the groundwork for a new art form and the opportunity to turn the city into the next Motown. All it needed was one charismatic entrepreneur to take advantage of it.
