For those of you that aren’t on “The App,” Audio Taste Test started as an album/song review that I posted weekly, giving you a sense of what you should check out next based on your musical preferences. Now that it’s on the airwaves, curating a full playlist for you is the highlight of my week — every week!
Kicking off this episode is electronic artist Avery Catbird, who just released their Love, Hate and Ants EP. Their music is a lyricless infusion of bossa nova, indietronica and jazz, giving you the feeling you’re riding up an elevator and have no clue when it’s going to stop but are still totally into the mystery.
For you folk/Americana fans out there, New Zealand multi-instrumentalist Mountain Boy released his sophomore album this month titled The Nights, the follow-up to his introspective debut, The Days. You know that feeling when you’re out until bar time with friends, and you want that fleeting moment of closeness and connection to last forever? That’s the vibe.
Also making an appearance are jazz-infusion pioneers Casiopea and Bappi Aparesh Lahiri (aka “The Disco King of India”), both of whom hit the mainstream scene in the United States/Europe during the 1980s and brought world sounds into the spotlight. Enjoy those selections and everything in this episode as we provide some sweet tracks for sipping your midnight coffee
