The DJ Takeover is a program for listeners to discover their favorite artist's favorite artists, working to foster connection to the music and makers inside and outside our city. For the entire hour, we go down the rabbit hole of stories from their past, experiences of the present and goals for the future.
This Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m., it’s a very special SXSW edition of the DJ Takeover with Parker Schultz of Social Cig and Jason Burczyk of The Cooperage. They’ll join me live on air to share their favorite songs and musical influences, and collectively spill the tea on life, love and The Wisconsin House at this year’s SXSW Music Festival.
The setup down in Austin will celebrate six Milwaukee-connected artists getting ready to showcase Wisconsin talent at SXSW. Social Cig, The Keystones, Joey Turbo, Scam Likely, NilexNile and Wave Chapelle will dive into the artist pool and put themselves in front of the global music industry March 12 and 13.
Ahead of his SXSW performance, Social Cig will premiere a brand-new song exclusively on the DJ Takeover and will join his fellow artists at a sendoff party this Thursday at The Cooperage. The event will help our travelers with the funds they need for gas, hotels, food and everything else talented people need to put those talents on display for the world. If you can’t make it to The Cooperage, they’re also collecting donations via Venmo (@wisconsinhouse2025).

Live-event producer and booking manager Jason Burczyk stays busy 24/7, 365 booking and building The Cooperage, Summer Soulstice, Cooperage Presents, Studio Milwaukee powered by Summerfest, Flannel Fest, Garver Feed Mill in Madison and The Wisconsin House at SXSW while also heading up Kontrast Talent Management with his brother Jayk. This year, Burczyk earned the new title of official presenter at the SXSW Music Festival. Working with the festival’s VP of music (and Milwaukee native) James Minor, Burczyk set up The Wisconsin House showcase at Marlow in Austin.
Born and brewed in Wisconsin, Social Cig is the indie-skate-rock music project of Filipino American Parker Schultz. Consisting of contagious authenticity and cheery live shows while cultivating an original story with an attitude of gratitude, Social Cig creates full-circle moments. Leafing through global music scenes with an ambitious DIY approach and writing songs that capture a genuine outlook from a modern-day Midwest cowboy, Social Cig has become a well-rounded grassroots venture.
