Every week, La Alternativa sponsored by Sparkly Clean Co. delivers the very best from the Latin alternative scene by curating a blend of emerging and established artists within the Latin diaspora, while providing a platform to champion our growing local music scene. Listen on demand here and on 88Nine from 10-11 p.m. every Wednesday.
Ellia Ana Hill is a Puerto Rican cut-paper artist, author and illustrator whose work is influenced by family, culture and childhood adventures.
Ellia earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design with an emphasis on illustration and creative writing, and has participated in gallery shows by Netflix, Disney, American Horror Story, Hasbro and more — all the while raising six kids with her husband.
During her time in the studio, we delved into what cut-paper is, Ellia’s life experiences that influenced her children's books and her favorite artists from Puerto Rico. It’s an episode full of throwback ’90s moments and sweet introspection about finding her art medium over 20 years ago.
You can explore all of Ellia Ana Hill’s endeavors through the Cozy Collective Instagram that features her arts and crafts for sale, the La Revo online shop that includes her books and her personal Instagram. You can also learn more about the exhibit “Las Curanderas: From Ashes, We Rise” on Instagram and Art for Arthritis on the event’s donation page.
