Son Rompe Pera started in 2017, primarily playing cumbia while integrating the Mexican marimba and fusing it with punk, ska and more. The five-piece fusion band brought that one-of-a-kind mix to the Vivarium on Oct. 18 and then joined us in the studio as co-hosts for this special episode.
There was a lot of talk about their latest album, Marimbazos de Oro, but we also brought it back to the influential tracks — from The Beatles to Non Servium — that helped shape Son Rompe Pera as we know them today. Staying in the past, brothers Jesús "Kacho" and Allan "Mongo" Gama reminisced about their father’s teaching them marimba and how this album was done in his honor.
