Best new music: Dream Sitch gets ‘Dug’ in on delightful new album

Courtesy of the artist

Every week, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shares a sonic gem she found using her nearly 20 years of new-music exploration experience. You can hear all her discoveries live on 88Nine at 10 p.m. every Monday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.

Dream Sitch — the collaborative project of Michael Nau of Cotton Jones and Seth Kauffman of Floating Action — create a soft, groovy psychedelic brand of indie pop. I’m a fan of their separate projects, and when they come together it’s a delightful call and response of both of their peak talents.

The two just released their third album, appropriately titled 3 (or DS3). Its breezily laid back yet intricately layered psychedelic indie-pop sound has a natural sparkle. Kauffman taps into his longtime studio work (including past collabs with folks like Jim James, Dan Auerbach, Ray LaMontagne and Lana Del Rey) to zhush up the atmosphere on this project — a true gem of a record available everywhere now via Airloom Records.

You can hear “Dug” from that album on the latest episode of What’s All This, and be sure to stay tuned for a fresh batch of tunes next week on the newest episode at 10 p.m. Mondays on 88Nine.
