The Milwaukee County Zoo is hosting the first exhibition in North America of BODY WORLDS: ANIMAL INSIDE OUT from May 6 to September 4, 2017. Similar to the Body Worlds Exhibition on the anatomy of the human body, this exhibition will delve into the anatomy of some of the amazing animals that inhabit this planet.
“In an accelerated technological age, when our environments are fashioned from steel and concrete, being in close proximity to animals — both domestic and wild — returns us to authenticity. Outside of the rainforests and flora, they and we are the last remaining pieces of nature. This exhibition, ANIMAL INSIDE OUT, is both a celebration and a homage to our co-habitants on this spinning blue globe.”
The project was created by anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens along with assistance from Dr. Angelina Whalley in an effort to show “the similarities between humans and animals greater respect and appreciation for all animals.” Visitors get the chance to examine the biology, zoology and physiology of featured specimens such as the bull, filly, octopus, ostrich, bactrian camel, and giraffe. Each animal presents an opportunity to explore the skeletal foundations, muscle and soft tissues, nervous system, and the incredibly different ways that each animal breathes, eats, and reproduces. The exhibit is an excellent opportunity to educate the public as well as discuss issues of conservation and preservation of all wildlife.
The BODY WORLDS: ANIMAL INSIDE OUT exhibit is located at the Milwaukee County Zoo in the Otto Borchert Family Special Exhibits Building. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 3 to 12. Come check out an amazing exhibit and learn a bit more about the great creatures that inhabit Earth!
