Later this year the Deer District will get in the holiday spirit when it hosts its second annual Christkindlmarket. But first it will get into a very different kind of holiday spirit when it transforms itself into the "Fear District" for the weeks surrounding Halloween. ( UPDATE: You can read our review of the Fear District here).
The entertainment plaza will host haunted houses, games and food four days a week from Thursday, Sept. 26, to Sunday, Nov. 3. There will also be scary movie screenings on select days. Entry will be free, but the haunted houses will host extra, with tickets priced at $20 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under and people 65 and older.
You've got to admire the commitment to the theme: The Fear District will be made up of three 3,600-square-foot attractions: a Vampire Village, "where guests must escape the bite of the vampire as they wander through the tombs;" Dead Man’s Wharf, "where participants will walk the plank with the Buccaneers of Fear;" and Scare Acres, "where attendees will bear the frights of the farm." Each area will feature themed games and free photo stations.
"Fear District’s hours of operation will be Thursdays from 6 to 10 p.m., Fridays from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays from 2 to 8 p.m.," according to a press release. "Fear District will be family-friendly prior to 6 p.m. on weekends, featuring the haunted houses, face-painting, Halloween-themed games and themed food and beverage options. Once night falls, however, the family-friendly scenes will turn frighteningly darker in the walk-through attractions of spine-tingling scares, themed bars and ghoulish entertainment, including free Halloween movies in The Beer Garden on Thursdays starting at 7 p.m."
Movie screenings will include “Halloween” on Oct. 3, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” on Oct. 10, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” on Oct. 17, “Scream” on Oct. 24, and “Friday the 13th” on Oct. 31.
