Here are nine — yes, nine — festivals happening in Milwaukee this weekend

This coming Sunday marks the end of the calendar month of July, a seemingly appropriate midpoint of Midwest summer. It also happens to be the heart of Milwaukee’s robust festival season, which might be why a recent tweet from the Milwaukee Record’s Matt Wild caught my attention. He counted seven festivals happening in Milwaukee this weekend.

But here at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, we wanted to do more. So, for reasons that have nothing to do with the last digit of our frequency, let’s take the seven Matt listed and add two for good measure. Without further ado, here are nine festivals you can check out in Milwaukee this weekend.

German Fest | July 29-31

Grab your stein, strap up your lederhosen and head to the Summerfest Grounds for one of Milwaukee’s biggest cultural festivals of the year. The three days feature traditional music, German cuisine and the crowd-favorite Dachshund Derby on Sunday. Hot tip: tickets are only $3 on Friday.

Oktoberfest Release & German Festival Party | July 29

Deviating from Matt’s list, Third Space Brewing is releasing its Oktoberfest beer as a fundraiser for the Museum of Beer & Brewing. The event, which has "Festival" in its name and thus totally counts, lasts from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

Riverwest 24 | July 29-30

One of the most unique neighborhood events of the year takes bike riders all over Riverwest (and beyond, if they feel like it). There aren’t many rules for this 24-hour bike-a-thon: ride to checkpoints, find fun bonuses, meet your neighbors and their neighbors.

Brady Street Festival | July 30

The popular Brady Street Festival returns to action with plenty of activities and a top-line Milwaukee musical lineup. Avoid driving on the East Side this Saturday.

Weird Fest | July 30

“Put on your weirdest costume or come as you are,” MobCraft Beer’s site reads. Among the limited beers on tap at Weird Fest will be “Chicago Hot Dog,” “Curry Kolsch” and “Low pHunk Key Lime Pie.”

Seventh Stanine Festival | July 30

A music festival started in Washington, D.C. is coming to Milwaukee for the first time. Why? Friendship. The rock-heavy Cactus Club concert starts at 12:30 p.m. and goes all the way until closing time.

Milwaukee Brewfest | July 30

Tickets start at $65, but samples are unlimited for an event celebrating one of the pillars of Milwaukee: responsible beer consumption.

Rock Party Block Party | July 30

This street fest at Puddler’s Hall in Bay View will have pizza, tacos, a Punk Rock Rummage Sale and six bands playing on a flatbed truck. Festivities last from 2 to 9 p.m.

BBQ Fest | July 31

Moving on from Matt’s list yet again, BBQ Fest takes place Sunday at the Tap Yard Beer Garden at Fox Brook Park in Brookfield. Four vendors will be there from noon to 6 p.m. serving up tasty favorites.
