Eat smart! What's the deal with CSAs?

All this month on 'In The Wings' we're talking about food. And this week, we raise the question: "How do you get your food?"

The question brought us to Riverside Park's Urban Ecology Center for their annual 'Local Farmer Open House'. The event, going on now for over ten years, brought together over 20 CSA farmers to the East Side location in an open house format. Members of the community are then encouraged to stop by, meet the farmers, learn a little bit about the local farms and how CSA's work and, as the flyer suggests, get to 'Know your farmer and know your food.'

And after perusing the various stands, meeting farmers and gathering information, we sat down with Jamie Ferschinger, the Riverside Park UEC's Branch Manager who assists in planning the event, to get the low-down on CSA's and buying local produce.... why do it?
