This Bites: Kroger's takeover of Roundy's and dining events in November

Tune in Friday mornings at 8am for 'This Bites," a conversation with Milwaukee Magazine's Dining Critic Ann Christenson and 88Nine's Tarik Moody about the latest on Milwaukee culinary and restaurant culture.

This week talked about two dining events happening in November: Masters of the Midwest at Bacchus and Blue's Egg's Grand Tasting.

On Nov. 20 at 6pm, Bacchus will be hosting its second "Masters of the Midwest Dinner." The dinner will welcome three of the greatest artisanal producers in the Midwest and Bartolotta's Executive Chef & James Beard Award Winner, Adam Siegel. The menu will focus on each of the producer's specialities: beer, cheese and pork. You can find more details and the menu here.

Then on Nov. 21 at 6pm, Blue's Egg will be hosting its 2nd annual "The Grand Tasting." The event will feature dozens of high-quality, interesting wines. Blue's is inviting top wine, beer and spirits vendors to pour sample libations. There will be more than 70 wines and more than 100 total beverage selections to choose from.  Blue's will serve light appetizers to accompany tasting.  Find more information and tickets here.

Earlier this week,  it was announced that the Ohio-based grocery store chain Kroger's will be taking over the Roundy's corporation, which is known for the Pick N Save and Metro Market stores. Kroger's is considered one of the fastest-growing grocery chains in the country. According to a report from JP Morgan Chase, Kroger's will overtake Whole Foods as the country's top seller of natural and organic foods in two years. Growing up in Georgia, Kroger's is one of my favorite grocery store chains.  Only time will tell what this takeover will mean for the grocery store landscape in the Milwaukee area.
