Waste not, want not; Anthony Bourdain attacks food waste in new film, 'Wasted'

Anthony Bourdain - Wasted! Food Waste

Each Friday at 8 am on 88Nine, Milwaukee Magazine’s dining critic, Ann Christenson, and 88Nine foodie Tarik Moody discuss Milwaukee’s culinary and restaurant culture.

On this week’s show, we discussed the new food waste documentary directed by Anthony Bourdain called “Wasted.” We also talked about a Filipino Pop up dinner, and the Great Midwestern Pie Championship.

If you are a chef or a restaurant and have an announcement or an event, please send any information or press release to thisbites@radiomilwaukee.org.

Anthony Bourdain's film on food waste

Did you know one-third of the food grown annually for human consumption is never eaten? It just ends of in the garbage. To put in monetary figures, that is $218 billion thrown away each year. American families throw away between $1,365 and $2,275 of food a year.

A new documentary from the chef, and author Anthony Bourdain takes a closer look at the problem of food waste in a new documentary called "Wasted! The Story of Food Waste."  The film comes out this weekend in select theaters and on demand via Amazon, iTunes, etc.

WASTED! THE STORY OF FOOD WASTE aims to change the way people buy, cook, recycle, and eat food.  Through the the eyes of chef-heroes like Bourdain, Dan Barber, Mario Batali, Massimo Bottura, and Danny Bowien, audiences will see how the world’s most influential chefs make the most of every kind of food, transforming what most people consider scraps into incredible dishes that create a more secure food system. WASTED! exposes the criminality of food waste and how it’s directly contributing to climate change and shows us how each of us can make small changes – all of them delicious – to solve one of the greatest problems of the 21st Century.
