42 Grams Screening at Iron Horse Hotel on Jan 30

On Jan. 30, The Iron Horse Hotel will host a screening of the documentary 42 Grams.  The screening is free and will take place at 7:00 pm.

About the film:

After working at some of the world’s best restaurants, Jake’s aggressive personality kept him from finding a kitchen to call home. A chef without a restaurant, Jake began cooking fifteen-course menus out of his apartment. Alongside his dedicated wife Alexa, their “underground” restaurant becomes a foodie hot spot. The experience is unique: they present refined flavors while dirty dishes soak in their bedroom. A year later, they take out a lease on an abandoned chicken joint to open a real restaurant, 42 Grams. The film follows them developing menus, hiring and firing staff, shows Jake’s temper, the strains on their marriage, and what they risk in their pursuit of the American Dream.

Two Chili cook-offs this weekend

Milwaukee's 12th annual Chili Bowl on Jan. 28 at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino

On Jan. 28 from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, the 12th annual Chili Bowl returns to Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. Milwaukee's top chefs and restaurants will compete for Milwaukee's best chili and the coveted Golden Ladle Award.  You can grab tickets here. Here are some of this year's participants:

Joe's K Ranch: Traditional chili spices with a beefy tomato base. Sweet onions, red peppers, green peppers and loads of lean ground chuck all come together to form a mild spiced chili.

Delafield Brewhaus: Brisket beer chili with caramelized onion, cream beer cheese. Also serving a Veggie Chili- Chickpea vegetable chili with poblano sour cream

Mulligans Irish Pub & Grill: Traditional beef and pork loin chili . Also serving it's Vegetarian Chili - a Smoked Poblano and white bean vegetarian chili

Ugly's: Spicy Steak and Beef Chili: Sirloin, ground beef and and a special blend of fresh and dried hot peppers. Chipotle sour cream garnish.

Kettle Range Meat Co.: WHOLY SMOKED chili highlights our signature grass fed beef and smoked sausage paired with charred and smoked chili’s and tomatillo slow cooked in a deeply seasoned bone broth reduction.

Trysting Place Pub: Traditional ground beef chili in three different types of heat. Mild, spicy, and OH MY GOD

Bunzel's Old-Fashioned Meat Market & Catering: Cowboy Prime Ribeye Chili topped with duck fat potatoes

Allgauer's Bistro In The Park: Traditional and Spicy Chili: Saltillo White Bean Chili - White Bean, Spicy Homemade Chorizo Sausage, Ground Beef, Tomatillos’, Array of Spicy Peppers, Chili’s and Roasted Corn. Topped with Cilantro Sour Cream

The Astor Hotel: Beer Cheese Chili - Beer, cheese, ground bratwurst, white northern beans, and a mix of spices.

2nd Annual Port Chili Bowl

Port Washington will aslo be host to chili cook-off on Jan. 28.  12 Port Washington restaurants will compete in the 2nd annual Port Chili Bowl from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Restaurants include: Ashley’s Restaurant and Bar, Beanies Mexican Restaurant, Inventor’s Brewpub, Java Dock, John’s Pizzeria, Newport Shores, Schooner Pub & Grill, Smith Brothers Coffee House, Tello’s Grille and Cafe, Twisted Willow, Wicked Grille, and Yummy Bones BBQ.

2nd Annual Wisconsin Foodie Winter Smorgasbord & Fundraiser

On Feb. 18, Wisconsin Foodie will host its 2nd annual Winter Smorgasbord & Fundraiser at the Italian Community Center. You will get the meet the artisans and chefs featured on the show, take part in master classes, and taste some amazing culinary delights from all over the state.

The premise of the Plate Collective is chefs of each restaurant and Kate work together to make a vessel specifically for each course. They work out sizing and color and what would be the perfect backdrop or canvas for the food.
