This past Monday in Chicago, the James Beard Awards took place and Milwaukee chef Dane Baldwin from The Diplomat took home the award for Best Chef Midwest. It is the first time a Milwaukee chef took home this award since 2014. This year's awards were one of the most diverse. Other winners include the Minneapolis indigenous restaurant Owanmi won the award for Best New Restaurant and Chef Mashama Bailey of Savannah's The Grey took home the award for Outstanding Chef.
