When the historic Schlitz mansion went on the market a few months back, the story quickly went viral. Probably because of the price tag -- it's listed for $350,000, not a bad deal for a piece of history.
And that's where OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo takes us for this week's Urban Spelunking.
The 7,000 square foot historic, 5-bedroom mansion on 20th and Highland was built in 1890. It was home to Victor Schlitz, a liquor distributor and nephew of beer man Joseph Schlitz, Tanzilo writes.
Cream city brick adorns the outside, some bricks dyed to create a colorful and unique effect. On the inside, stunning woodwork accents every feature, and it has all be restored to its original condition.
