How often do you see "former public school" in the description box when you're booking a hotel?
Can't say I've ever seen it.
But soon, in Milwaukee, spending the night in a schoolhouse will be an option to visitors of the Concordia neighborhood.
The former Wisconsin Avenue School at 27th and Wisconsin Ave. has been acquired by Ambassador Hotel owner Rick Wiegand, and it is currently undergoing renovation.
Right now, the focus is cleaning and prepping, according to OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo, who wrote about the development for this week's Urban Spelunking.
While there is no established timeline for opening, Wiegand says the hotel concept will offer upscale, extended-stay suites.
The 1919 schoolhouse will still maintain much of its original details and character, including a giant fireplace in the former kindergarten classroom. That room will be the hotel's showcase "Principal's Suite." Quite fitting.
