Why is there a tiny apartment inside Rufus King High School?

It's one of Wisconsin's best schools in terms of academics. But if we were grading on design, the school would get equally high marks.

This week on Urban Spelunking, we explore Rufus King High School, an Art Deco gem at 18th and Olive St.

Designed in 1932 by architect Guy Wiley, Rufus King was built to look impressive. It boasts intricate tile work and an "almost insane attention to detail," writes OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo.

But two features in particular make it especially unique -- the Elizabethan-esque black box theater and a mini apartment.

What are they used for?  Find out in this week's podcast, and be sure to read Bobby's complete story at OnMilwaukee.com.
