You could live in this former East Side school soon

Have you ever wanted to live in a former school? This could be your chance.

"The 1912 SS. Peter and Paul school at 2474 N. Cramer St., has been listed for sale by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, and now a buyer has been found," writes OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo in this week's Urban Spelunking story.

The school reportedly will be converted to between 20 and 30 apartments, using the existing classroom space that spans about 30,000 square feet. The timetable is flexible, but the developers are expecting to open the apartments to tenants by summer of next year.

In addition to the apartments, about 10,000 square feet has been reserved for a commercial or retail tenant. The church, however, will remain.

"The developers plan to seek state and federal historic tax credits to help finance the $4-5 million project, which will likely be funded via a variety of streams, including mortgage debt and private investment," writes Tanzilo.

Listen to our conversation below in this week's podcast, and visit OnMilwaukee for more about the parish's history on the East Side of Milwaukee.
