Milky Way Tech Hub puts Milwaukee on the map for BIPOC innovators

Change, innovation and the tech industry can be intimidating. The Milky Way Tech Hub has figured out a way to dial that down by bringing opportunities to Black and Brown developers through the community they’re already familiar with.

Founded by Nadiyah Johnson, the Milky Way Tech Hub addresses the lack of diversity in the tech industry while putting Milwaukee at the forefront of innovation. In line with its cosmic name, the service is a launching pad for start-ups, helping them accelerate their growth through workshops, panels and design thinking sessions.

Johnson has major plans for the hub, but her next step is working closely with real-estate developer Oby Nwabuzor to evolve its current location in the Sherman Park neighborhood by creating a co-working space that also gives them room for events.

In this episode of Uniquely Milwaukee, HYFIN’s Kim Shine takes over as she shares a detailed interview with Johnson and Nwabuzor, who discuss the creation of the Milky Way Tech Hub and its future. Listen below, and be sure to head over to HYFIN for a full transcript of the interview and renderings of the hub's redesign.
