SapSap brings Laotian cuisine to Racine and Juneteenth food traditions

SapSap - Laotian Cuisine

On this week’s edition, we’ve got news about SapSap's opening of their brick and mortar restaurant in Racine, the Caribbean-inspired food truck El Sazón Dominicano, a new southern restaurant called Tupelo Honey coming to Third Ward and Juneteenth food traditions.

We kick things off by talking about SapSap bringing Laotian cuisine to Racine with their new brick and mortar restaurant located at 2343 Mead Street. Online pre-order is now open for carry-out through this Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7 pm. They will roll out a full menu and begin dine-in soon. In the meantime, you can order some of their favorites including Lao jerky, Mamma's eggrolls, Korean fried chicken wings, charred skirt steak, SapSap sausage, Isan half chicken, fried chicken Bahn Mi, fish sauce-salted caramel brownies and more.

If you're looking to satisfy that Caribbean food fix, check out El Sazón Dominicano food truck. The truck features dishes like Dominican Nachos, Tostones Con Salami Frita (Fried plantains and salami) and more. Check their Facebook page for their schedule and update menus.

Southern restaurant chain Tupelo Honey is coming to the Third Ward later this summer. They will be located acrross from the Milwaukee Public Market and will feature dishes like Dusted Fried Chicken, Mac & Cheese Waffle with Asheville Hot Chicken, Shoo Mercy Sweet Potato Pancakes, Sweet & Spicy chicken & biscuit and more.

Finally, we talk about Juneteenth food traditions and discuss an article featuring culinary historian Michael Twitty discussing the history of Juneteenth culinary traditions over on Oprah Daily. Plus we shared Food52's ' 68 recipes from Black creators to Celebrate Juneteenth.'
