Don't Sleep on...Leila

Blood, Looms and Blooms, Not unlike friend and collaborator Bjrk, songwriter/producer Leila Arab concocts electronica that seduces by surprise. With guest vocalists crooning over synth wiggles seemingly lifted from Aphex Twin's Richard D. James Album, the Iranian expat's first record in eight years is as tuneful as it is brazen, deep and slighly sinister as it is light and eerily bright.Fourteen songs in total are like little, baroque, fairy tales composed in the darkest corners of her music box, featuring vocal performances from the likes of ex-Specials, Terry Hall, Martina Topley-Bird and Luca Santucci. I bought it for the cover and yet wound up loving it for its intensity. Sort of a lighter, more acoustic Boards Of Canada though after a listen, it should come as no surprise that 'leila' is Hebrew for night. The music inhabits a modern dreamscape where one might easily run into Flying Lotuses or Nightmares on Wax...Here's a cut or two..."Mollie""Teases Me"
