It's the Lords Of The Underground's Funky Thang!

As we continue our EVOLUTION OF HIP HOP MONTH here on Radio Milwaukee, I'm going to continue exploring the genre's favorite sample source...

SEVEN O CLOCK SAMPLE presents... The James Brown Samples! Week 3 of the EVOLUTION OF HIP HOP, we explore some tracks from the "Golden Era" of Hip Hop. The golden era is a loosely defind period in Hip Hop when the rappers and producers seemed to finally be at par with one another. Beats were funky, lyrics were thought provoking and Hip Hop was FUN! A group that shinned in this era, THE LORDS OF THE UNDERGROUND, formed in the late 90s in Newark. They teamed up with Marley Marl's House of Hits and produced a number of classic Hip Hop songs. One of those singles is FUNKY CHILD! Dj Lord Jazz and Marley pulled a very popular horn lick from the Godfather JAMES BROWN's "My Thang" Check it out! Here is a great story on this track from the D-Nice TRUE HIP HOP STORIES series.
