"Safe Streets, Healthy Kids": Operation Dream Goes Camping

Listen: The night before Christmas, the last day of school, the day before a birthday. These are all times when young minds are bursting with enthusiasm, anticipating the magic of the near future. All they can see is excitement and possibility. When I stopped by Hopkins Streeet School last Friday, this is exactly what I could see in the eyes of the young men of Project Dream, as they waited to leave for their big camping trip.

Earlier this summer, we heard about the Operation Dream Eagles, a first-time team in Beckum Stapleton Little League, which is just a portion of all that goes on at Project Dream ( to learn more about what they do, check out their website). They also place a major focus on exposing young men to new experiences in the Milwaukee area and beyond. A prime example of that is their summer camping trips, a weekend packed with fishing, hiking, sports, bonfires, and anything else you could imagine. Listen in as I spend a morning with the boys of Operation Dream and Executive Director/Founder Rodney Burrage as they prepare for the big trip: see podcast below.

Not sure if you noticed, but all the background music is from Nick Drake. Extra points if you caught that.
