"Meet the Need": Day 24 of 50 | Addressing Personal Employment Needs

For Day 24 of 50 in our Meet the Need campaign, we are highlighting the Milwaukee Outreach Center. It’s an organization that works with the unemployed and underemployed in Milwaukee to help them find work.

One of their essential programs is the Life Skills class where students learn about themselves to determine where they stand academically and what kind of jobs they’d be suitable for. Its also a good starting point for job seekers who may not know exactly what they’d like to do. They say their goal is to leave students with a sense of “hope, direction and purpose.”

We recently spoke with Johanna Duckworth, who sits on the board of directors at The Milwaukee Outreach Center about how they are meeting personal employment needs for job seekers.

In this piece, Johanna talks about a young woman who sought out TMOC to help her brother get on a more productive path. He wasn’t enthusiastic about it at first but Johanna says he now volunteers at the center and values the organization as a safe haven for him.

If you want to get involved with the Milwaukee Outreach Center volunteers can help out with some basic office duties or more in-depth positions as a mentor or an intern.

In the podast piece below Johanna explains that some people coming through the center don’t always recognize that they may have made some unproductive decisions in the past, so its difficult for them to see how they can improve their future. TMOC guides students through the process.

This year, we ask you to adopt one or two organizations that connect with you. Want to get involved with Milwaukee Outreach Center? Donate, volunteer, or check out their work yourself. Check out their extensive website for a variety of ways to help out.
