Milwaukee's season of festivals continues here on Sound Travels with Milwaukee's Irish Fest gearing to go down in Henry Maier Festival Park this weekend. Irish Fest, the worlds biggest Irish festival this side of Ireland (and who am I to disagree?), starts Thursday, August 18th and continues through Sunday, August 21st and features a whole lot for the Irish enthusiast or casual festival-goer. In addition to promoting Irish culture and heritage, Irish Fest is highlighting Derry and Donegal Counties, hosting learning workshops and putting up sixteen stages for over one hundred artists; sounds big!
So Sound Travels to the Fest with Irish music and musicians all week long and starts with an interesting project called Celtic Pink Floyd that is...well...exactly as it sounds. The album is a twelve-song comp of popular Pink Floyd Songs but with traditional Celtic instruments, such as uilleann pipes, fiddle, tin whistle, accordion, as well as Irish style vocals, guitars, bass and drums.
Damon Stout and Brian Stout, arrangers, producers and musicians, created Celtic Pink Floyd after realizing that the original Floyd material was, according to Damon Stout, “at its core, quite folk-centric and would lend itself quite well to Celtic arrangements.” Celtic Pink Floyd’s debut album is available for sale as a CD or digital download on their we site at www.celticpinkfloyd.com and www.cdbaby.com as well as on iTunes and Amazon. Celtic Pink Floyd will donate a portion of the proceeds to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
