Milwaukee Film Opening Night Party

Here at 88NINE, we are all getting ready for the 2011 Milwaukee Film Festival.  There's been pleanty of healthy disccusion on what films we plan to see, and what events we are most exctied about.  The one this we can all agree on, is that the opening night party is going to be MASSIVE!  The folks at Milwaukee Film have pulled out all the stops for this party.

Here is our guide to the Opening Night's festivities...

SOUND TRAVELS TENT.

If the Radio Milwaukee DJs were the Super Friends, Marucs would with out a doubt be Superman.

(Everyone loves him! Not everyone loves Aquaman, but Superman, you gotta love him.  He is also from another planet, and we are not sure that Marcus is from here.)  Apparently the folks at Milwaukee Film also love Marcus, becasue they have dedicated the main party tent as the SOUND TRAVELS TENT.  The main arena will feature Marcus on the ones and twos spinning the best in world music.  The headline DJ is New York-based DJ Rekha. Her music blends traditional Bhangra music of South Asia with the fresh hip-hop beats of today. Yeah, it's as cool as you imagine it would be.

DJ Rehka is on at 11:45pm

SEX and CIGARETTES.

Milwaukee Film not only booked some of Milwaukee's finest muscians to play at the opening night festival, that actually created a new Milwaukee band just for the show.  Sex and Cigarettes is a Milwaukee super-group made up William Seidel (Decibully), Ryan Schleicher (Juniper Tar), Fran Switalski (The Flips), Austin Dutmer (Jaill), Jason Todd (Def Harmonic) and Matthew Gorski (Fresh Cut Collective).  They will perform for this one-night-only paying tribute to the iconic music of the 1960’s French legend, Serge Gainsbourg.

Sex & Cigarettes perform at 10:45pm

BREW CITY BOMBSHELLS

The Brew City Bombshells Burlesque have become of of our city's must see acts.  Their performance is a nod to the Closing Night film, "On Tour", about an American burlesque group traveling to France to take the Parisian stage by storm.

The Bombshells perform at 10pm in the Great Lakes Room

Grolsch Filmworks Lounge

This is a unique addition to the party.  The Loungewill be a hip and funky place to unwind, catch a drink and see some amazing local art work.  The room will feature soundtrack trivia with our favorite WMSE DJ Dori Zori.  There will also be  an exhibit of screen printed poster art inspired by festival films from Eric Von Munz (Outrage), Dwellephant (Louder Than A Bomb), Alyssa Schulte (Nostalgia for the Light), Orchard Street Press (Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life), Francisco Ramirez of Bureau of Print Research and Design (Robot and Close Encounters of the Third Kind), Kari Couture of Redline (The Interrupters) and Eric Hancock (for Valley Maker). From 9pm to 12:30am

WALK THE RED CARPET

As you enter the party, you'll be treated to a true film fest red carpet experience. Enjoy the Beauty Bar by Neroli, a red carpet by Tap Milwaukee, a Trailers Preview Theater with popcorn and music from (Jordan) DJ Madhatter.

Well, if that's not cool enough for you, I suggest you move to Alaska.
