The Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design is known as an outstanding art college, but did you know it also has an outstanding Service Learning program? I did, because I teach there, so yeah..maybe a bit of a conflict of interest, but I felt it time to showcase some of MIAD's community work. This program would not be possible without the generous support of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation!
I met with Ben Rothschild, a former MIAD student and now their Academic Service Learning Assistant Coordinator (say that fast three times), as well as seniors Courtney Morgan (Drawing) and Carlie Nesgoda (Interior Architecture and Design). We talked about the importance of service learning, the connection to their own work as artists, and the value of artists giving back to the community.
