As we look at samples with soul this week, I would be foolish to leave this one out...
I 1970 Bobby Byrd recorded "I KNOW YOU GOT SOUL" with James Brown's band The J.B.'s. The recording was produced by James Brown and released as a single on People Records (James' label) in 1971. It reached #30 on the Billboard R&B chart.
I love how these old JBs records were left so raw. That maybe one of the reasons this song was sampled by Eric B and Rakim on their classic Hip Hop anthem of the same name.
