The Weeknd Covers The King Of Pop

In today's blog based, social network world of music discovery, you do not need to drop a traditonal album to blow up.  That is the case with Toronto based producer, the Weeknd.

The Weeknd released a nine-song freemixtape, House of Balloons, on 21 March 2011.  This "album" was named as a longlisted nominee for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize. On July 6, the album was named as one of ten shortlisted nominees but eventually lost to Arcade Fire's The Suburbs.   That's pretty impressive for a free web based release.

Since then, the Weeknd hasd become more and mroe popular.  Recently, the Weeknd released a cover of Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana", simply titled "D.D.".
