Yesterday was soul singer Sam Cooke's birthday. Sam would have been 82 this year, had he not been shot in 1964. Shortly after his untimely death, RCA/Victor released one of his greatest hits. "A Change Is Gonna Come" was recorded by Cooke in 1963, as a personal reflection of the Civil Right Movement.
This track has been covered by a large number of artists over the years. Otis Redding, The Supreme, Aretha Franklin, Al Green and more recently, by Herbie Hancock on THE IMAGINE PROJECT.
