Seasonal Employment at Buyseasons - Safe Streets, Healthy Kids 2012

Seasonal employment matters.

For many young people, a seasonal job is the path to that first paycheck.  This fall, more than 1600 people will find work at internet retailer Buyseasons.

Its business is fun -- literally.

From its sprawling New Berlin campus, Buyseasons packages and ships Halloween costumes and party supplies across the country.  The company offers a variety of employment situations to its associates, including part time and full time jobs.

David Karst is the Vice President of Human resources, and he says rewarding the best associates is at the center the company’s business model.

“They come here through community based organizations in the city of Milwaukee," Karst said. "They earn money, they learn a skill, and hopefully at the end of the season we go on to hire the best of the best. “

If you don’t have a lot of experience, don’t sweat it.  Karst says attitude goes a long way.  Buyseasons will offer hundreds of young people their first job this Halloween season, teaching them “soft skills.”  Those skills include punctuality, positive attitude, coachability and responsibility for one’s work.

Buyseasons works closely with the Wisconsin Seasonal Workforce Coalition, a partnership of seasonal employers in Southeast Wisconsin.  The coalition connects people to seasonal jobs at prominent local companies, including US Cellular, Time Warner Cable and UPS.  Click here for a list of comanies hiring seasonal workers in your neighborhood.
