Kompost Kids | Safe Streets, Healthy Kids

The Kompost Kids want your garbage - or just what you may think of as garbage. They’re an urban composting group with drop off sites all over Milwaukee. They work with the community to keep organic waste out of the landfills and turn it into something a lot more valuable - nutrient rich soil.

Residents and over a dozen restaurants contribute food residuals - including egg shells, coffee grounds and vegetable scraps and the city drops off yard waste.

The Kompost Kids have been around as an unofficial group since late 2009, and have just filed to become an official non-profit and they hope to expand their community composting sites in the future.

I went to one of their community composting sites behind Sweet Water Organics in Bay View to find out how they turn trash into black gold.
