Sound Travels - Sol Sonidero Minimix

Sound Travels every week with a theme. Some weeks however, I feel the theme is a constraint and this week I've a yen for some freedom. Sometimes I just wanna throw the good songs together and see what works irrespective of style or country of origin. Just good music.

Today, it was a tasty bit of funk from Soundway Records, both Ondatropica and KonKoma being brand new releases from a label that purveys some of the best new and vintage tropical sounds. Ondatropica being Will Holland's (aka Quantic) latest as well as a collaboration with Frente Cumbeiro's Mario Galeano, and it sounds very good. Though the full length isn't scheduled to be released till July 16th, the single "Punkero Sonidero" is out now. KonKoma's self-titled debut however, is out now and looks like the front-runner for afrobeat album of the year. Nasty Ghanaian afrobeat and recommended highly!

The rest of the set is rounded out with some afro-latin vibes from Colombia's Afrotumbao, featured on Rebel Sound's Root A Pacifica compilation, and free here. Add a jazzy latin tune from Una Mas Trio and some summery Brazilian vibes from  Alessao Vilhoso and a Sound Travels minimix hath been done. Have fun in the sun...
