You Picked It! Alternative Olympics, London Underground

This week on Sound Travels we put democracy into action. I've been asking for any and all ST fans to vote for the theme of the day. While the voting is actually taking place on the 88Nine facebook page, the details are and will be here.

That said, I posted three options on our page this morning and like real Americans, just a few of y'all voted; good enough for me though. And between Ethio Jazz, California Reggae and one playfully titled, "Alternative Olympics, London Underground" our winner was the most ambiguous of the three.

So...what exactly is "Alternative Olympics, London Underground?" Actually, it's a subject inspired by last Friday's Rhythm Lab, when Tarik Moody compiled a set of super-dope, London-based musics; two hours well-spent IMO. While his show certainly offers a more well-rounded line-up of deep (and well-known) artistic Londoners, the one I had that you voted on was as sweet as it was short. Grime kingpin Wiley rocks it on one of his latest bangers while the playful whimsy of Micachu keeps it clever. Melodic dubstep unlike no other from one of my faves Silkie (really, one day her isht is gonna blow up!) and the sweetest little thing from Jessie Ware and Sampha, who are two of the vocalists from vowel-less electro-R&B act SBTRKT.

I closed the set with wonky electro from a crew called Clout, kinda futuristic R&B. A different set on Sound Travels today enjoy the minimix or track-by-track...

Jessie Ware & Sampha "Valentine"
