Our exploration of Samba brings us to the sounds of Bebel Gilberto. Daughter of daughter of João Gilberto and singer Miúcha. Her uncle is singer/composer Chico Buarque. So it goes with out saying, Brazilian music runs in the family. Bebel has been performing since her youth in Rio de Janeiro, and she broke out in the states with her 2000 release Tanto Tempo. This album had several hits for Bebel, including the song "Samba Da Benção".
When I first heard this song, I thought I'd heard it two years earlier. Well, I was right. The producer of this track is Brazilian down tempo artist Amon Tobin. Tobin's "Nova", from the 1998 Ninja Tune album Permutation, is the backing track of "Samba da Benção".
