Website launches to promote tolerance

In just an hour, you can help make Milwaukee a more tolerant place.

That's the message from a new website called HoursAgainstHate.org.

The website is asking everyday people to spend an hour interacting with people whom they normally wouldn't.  And if you're unsure how to spend that hour, the site also provides 100 suggested ways to give back.

"We ask young people to volunteer an hour or more of their time to help someone who doesn't look like them, pray like them, live like them or love like them," said founder Hannah Rosenthal.

Rosenthal is also the president of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, which is presenting the website in partnership with the U.S. Department of State.

HoursAgainstHate is working toward raising 500 volunteer hours.  Right now, 45 people have taken the pledge.

And here's where you come in --

  1. Take the pledge at the website and let us know how you'll be spending your hour.
  2. Make a short video on your webcam or smartphone and link it in the comments box below or on our Facebook page.
  3. We'll use your videos in an upcoming Community Story.

?Maybe you'll hear yours on the air!
