Sound Travels + Alliance Franaise = one big Beaujolais Nouveau party

Sound Travels was on a French tip today, played a few new charms from some artists I know precious little about. That's okay, music is often a bit overanalyzed and over-informed anyway; and it's often an adventure just listening to something new. The songs I played today were just that, and plenty of fun too. I was in this Francophonic vein for a good reason however, as this week marks the return of a lesser-known holiday in France known as Beaujolais Nouveau Day. It's a day that marks the release of a not-so-serious vintage, as Beaujolais Nouveau is a fresh wine, released just weeks after harvest. It does however mark the beginning of wine season in France, making the moment perfect for a party.

Beaujolais Nouveau Day is set for Thursday (November 21st) and Alliance Française de Milwaukee is having a fête for it. Guess who they got to DJ? Sound Travels has been the sound of said party for the past few years and will be again when the bottles are officially uncorked this Thursday at The Rite Center (formerly the Humphrey Scottish Rite Center) at 790 N Van Buren St. You don't have to speak French to enjoy this one as the wine is the only tale your tongue needs. From 6pm till 9pm, wine will flow with some sounds from French-speaking lands with yours truly behind the decks...
