Holiday Folk Fair showcases global cultures

Every culture has its own holiday traditions, and as the season revs up, people are celebrating in their own ways around the globe.

And here in Milwaukee, people had the chance to see some of those traditions firsthand.

Last week hundreds of people attended the Holiday Folk Fair, an annual indoor immersive experience that connects Milwaukee to cultures around the globe.  2013 marked the 70th anniversary of the Folk Fair, which happens every November at State Fair Park.

Visitors were able to tour the world in a sense, meeting with representatives from dozens of cultures and countries.  Performers from each ethnic group demonstrated traditional dance and music, and visitors were able to sample food from each country.

So with the holiday season upon us, we wondered how each culture celebrates the festival season.  Click the podcast player to hear from various cultures.  Click the "next" button (the one to the right of the play button) to take a tour of your own.

Here's the play order:

  1. Latvia
  2. German (Donauschwaben)
  3. Czech
  4. Polish
