It is a new year, and that means it is time to look forward to a slew of new music. To kick off the 2014, James Vincent McMorrow and Sharon Jones & Dap-Kings will release new albums on January 14.
James Vincent McMorrow will release Post Tropical, which is a follow-up to his amazing debut album Early In The Morning. McMorrow takes different approach on this album. Instead of the folk direction on the first album, Post Tropical heads in a more electronic r&b direction.
"I wanted to give this record the feel and movement of the R&B records that I love." -McMorrow
McMorrow worked on the new album near a pecan farm a half a mile from the Mexican border. Post Tropical was written, produced, and perform entirely by McMorrow. You can stream the album in full via iTunes.
Heading into a different direction of the R&B spectrum is the new album from Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings called Give The People What They Want. This is the fifth studio album from the retro-soul group. The album was schedule to be released back in 2013, but Sharon Jones was diagnosed with cancer and the album and tour was put on hold. Then in October, Rolling Stone magazine reports that Jones has successfully recovered from Cancer surgery, and started to make plans for an album release and tour in 2014. Now you can stream their new album via NPR Music. You can also catch them perform live at The Pabst Theater on March 6 with support from Valerie June.
