Milwaukee is in for a treat on May 16 at The Riverside Theater. In 2012, a documentary by the name of Searching For Sugar Man told the amazing story of the Detroit singer & songwriter Sixto Rodriguez.
Directed by Malik Bendjelloul, the documentary details the efforts of two Cape Town fans in the late 1990s, Stephen 'Sugar' Segerman and Craig Bartholomew Strydom. The two fans aimed to find out whether the rumoured death of American musician Sixto Rodriguez was true, and, if not, to discover what had become of him. Rodriguez's music, which never took off in the United States, had become wildly popular in South Africa, but little was known about him there. -Wikipedia
Rodriguez only recorded two albums, Cold Fact in 1969 and Coming from Reality in 1971 that was critically praised, but never saw any success in America until the released of the 2012 documentary. The documentary won an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 85th Academy Awards in 2013.
Now, the main subject of Searching For Sugar Man, Rodriguez, will perform live at The Riverside Theater on May 16. Tickets go on sale on March 21 at Noon.
