A new season has begun at the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, and to celebrate its 59th year in Milwaukee, it is announcing some big news.
A group of talented young adult musicians will embark on an international tour next spring, performing in Budapest, Hungary and Vienna, Austria.
It also added its first ever Artist in Residence. Internationally celebrated violinist Frank Almond will perform with MYSO's most senior ensembles, including stops on its international tour, and he will work behind-the-scenes mentoring students at all levels.
MYSO offers music education to more than 1000 students annually, ages 8 to 18, from about 200 schools in Milwaukee. The ensembles meet the students at their skill level -- from beginners to chamber performers.
It has ensembles for just about any musical interest, too, from strings, to woodwinds, orchestra, jazz and steel pan.
Students are admitted to MYSO on an audtion basis. It will begin accepting new students in March 2015.
MYSO also accepts certain students without an extensive music background in its Progressions program, providing his or her teacher nominates the student.
