One of my favorite music festivals is Afropunk festival in New York city. I think the organizers look at my playlists to book the festival. D'Angelo, Lianne La Havas, The Internet, Body Count, Meshell Ndegeocello, Shabazz Palaces, SZA, , Fishbone, Valerie June, Alice Smith, and Cold Specks performed at last year's festival. Did I mention that Afropunk festival is also free. This year, Afropunk festival will be held not only in Brooklyn, but Atlanta and most recently Paris.
Each year the organizers of Afropunk festival host a 'Battle of Bands' contest. The contest gives an opportunity for up & coming artists and bands to perform at the festival in Brooklyn.
This year, in addition to the battle in Brooklyn, AFROPUNK is bringing the battles to Atlanta and Philadelphia with the help of local artists Cobra Snake in the ATL and Veteran Freshman in Philly. Bands choose which city to rep and compete for the chance to play the AFROPUNK Festival 2015. Online sign-up and voting begins May 15th and ends May 29th
