Happy Birthday From 40,000 Feet!

Roger McGuinn, founder of the Byrds, turns 73 today. He started on the banjo, taking lessons at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music. He later moved to Los Angeles, found a kindred spirit in Gene Clark and formed the Byrds. He adapted his banjo-picking style to playing a Rickenbacker 12-string guitar, which would go on to influence a whole slew of guitarists, including Tom Petty and Peter Buck of R.E.M. While many have covered the song "Eight Miles High", Bryan Ferry, in his inimtable style makes it his own with Roxy Music and provides the cover today. Happy Birthday Roger McGuinn!
