Why green buildings matter

Back in July, the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance underwent a major expansion.

It joined up with a national organization -- the US Green Building Council -- aligning with a network of similar organizations around the country.

Today, it is poised to take on an even larger role in supporting the local sustainable development movement, and it has recently moved, too, to a new location in the Avenues West Neighborhood.

As part of the USGBC, the Wisconsin chapter will be able to "enhance its operations and strengthen its focus on Wisconsin-based education and advocacy about the built environment," according to its website.  "We will have access to better resources for more robust, streamlined, and diverse programming."

The USGBC is known for creating LEED certification guidelines, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, which recognizes sustainable developments.
